If you have luck, your basement has higher walls that stick out from ground level. In that case you can installs windows in your basement to bring in natural light.

If you want to make a room feel more tranquil, use cool, pale shades of purple, green or blue. Get rid of fabrics that are dark-colored or have heavy texture; in place of them, use cottons and linens. Place some potpourri on your coffee table and light a scented candle to create your own piece of tranquil heaven.

If there are elderly people in your home, make sure you plan your home improvements with safety and mobility in mind. A shower stall that you can step into is much safer than a bathtub with a shower. Other things that can be incorporated include 36-inch doors and grab bars in the bathroom.
